The American flame stone was first discovered in 2017 by Erik Rintamaki on the shore of Lake Superior in Michigan, USA. He named this pebble with bright orange fluorescence under ultraviolet light “Yooperlite”, and the name comes from “Yoopers”. Means “people who live in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula”.
The fluorescence of this rock comes from the fluorescent sodalite contained in it. After research, it is speculated that this rock should have been transported to this place by a glacier from Canada, and it is not a native rock in Michigan.
American flamestone is the symbiosis of sodalite and feldspar, which has bright orange fluorescence under ultraviolet light; there are also some symbiotic fluorites that are purple in fluorescence under ultraviolet light.
